How does a gate run off of solar power?
The gate actually runs off of a 12 or 24-volt battery. The solar panel just recharges the battery. Depending on the amount of times the gate is used, the safety features, and the amount of sun available the solar panel may not be feasible.

Gate operators typically run off of 120 volt AC, 12 or 24 volt DC, or solar powered.
How does the gate close?
If you want the gate to automatically close behind you then additional safety features need to be installed to prevent anything from being struck by the gate.

When designing a gate system the homeowner needs to consider how guests enter/exit the property. Entry can be granted with a telephone intercom, a keypad, remote transmitter (similar to a garage door opener) or a separate entrance not controlled by an operator.
